Anyone can be a ROCK star at Longleaf Elementary!!

The Longleaf PTO Spirit Rock is a fun and exciting way to announce and publicize birthdays, accomplishments, and celebrations...or to thank or recognize your favorite Longleaf teacher or staff member!  Reserve the rock and paint it with a message for the whole school to see!

INFORMATION AND GUIDELINES:

  • Painting the rock is available on a first come, first serve basis.  Please keep in mind that the earlier you make your reservation, the more likely you are to secure your desired dates.
  • All reservations must be made and confirmed before painting the rock.  Payment confirms your reservation.
  • Rentals are $15.  Each rental period lasts 48 hours.  100% of proceeds go to benefit the students of Longleaf.
  • Paint, labor, and supplies are the responsibility of the individual renting the rock. The PTO will have a limited supply of different types and colors of paint available.  If you would like to use this paint, you must pick it up in the front office before 2:00 on the day you are painting the rock and return it the following day.
  • Parent/guardian supervision is required when painting the rock. The person renting the rock assumes all liability and responsibility for any injury or property damage that occurs to any person(s) present or property while painting the rock.
  • Painting is limited to the rock. Tarps, drop cloths or garbage bags must be used to protect the grass and area around the rock.  The renter is responsible for removing all supplies, trash, etc. after painting.
  • The PTO reserves the right to cover or remove any painting and/or decoration deemed inappropriate for public viewing. Inappropriate paintings and/or decoration may include, but are not limited to, foul and inflammatory language, pictures of any sort of violent or inappropriate nature, discriminatory words or images or political messages or images.

 SPIRIT ROCK FAQs:

What occasion is appropriate for renting the rock?
You can reserve the rock for almost anything.....a birthday wish, a thank you, congratulations on an accomplishment, good luck, special milestones, branch shout-outs, and more! The rock is a fun way to spread any kind of positive message.

Who can rent the rock?

Any Longleaf parent, family member, teacher, or staff member who has a PTO membership or registers for a free Membership Toolkit Account on the Longleaf PTO website can rent the rock.

How long does my rental last?
The $15 fee guarantees that your message will appear on the rock for a minimum of 48 hours from 4:00p.m. of the first day of your rental period.

How many days should I reserve on the calendar?

Reservations are for a 48-hour period.  Please reserve the day you want to actually paint the rock and the following day.  For example, if you want to paint the rock on October 10th, please reserve October 10th and 11th.  Your reservation will run from 4:00 p.m. on October 10th to 4:00 p.m. on October 12th.

How do I reserve and pay for my rental?

Reservations and payments must be made online through the PTO website.  Click HERE to make a reservation.

What supplies do I need?
You will typically need latex paint or 4-5 cans of spray paint for the base coat, additional acrylic or latex paint for your design and a tarp, drop cloth, or garbage bags to protect the grass.. We recommend craft/foam brushes for the design. The PTO will have a limited supply of different types and colors of paint available.  If you would like to use this paint, you must pick it up in the front office before 2:00 on the day you are painting the rock and return it the following day. *Please note that the amount of paint needed may vary depending on factors such as the current color of the rock, the design you are painting, and weather conditions.

What if I reserve the rock and the weather is bad?
The rock can be towel dried and the paint will adhere even in the rain.  There will be NO refunds issued for inclement weather, forgotten reservations, etc.  However, in the event of rain on the first day of your rental period, you will have the option of choosing another available rental period.  To request a raincheck, you must email the Longleaf PTO at longleafpto@yahoo.com within 48 hours of your original rental date to request a new reservation.

Can someone paint the rock for me?
You are welcome to have someone paint the rock for you; however, you will be responsible for the design painted as well as any injuries or damage that occur.  Keep in mind that this is meant to be a fun experience, and the recipient will be happy no matter how your thoughtful artwork turns out.

TIPS FOR PAINTING:

  • You will need to paint over the design that is currently on the rock.  The best base coat paint to use is spray paint. Depending on the color that is already on the rock and the color you are using, a can of latex paint or at least 4-5 cans of spray paint are needed to provide good coverage.
  • If you use latex paint for the base coat it will take longer to dry, so plan accordingly.
  • To paint your design, we recommend acrylic craft paint and craft foam brushes.
